Join us for an offshore passage from Portugal to Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. Depending on the weather we can make the offshore passage from mainland Europe offshore to the Canary Islands directly - 600 nm and perhaps 4-5 days at sea. Alternatively we might hop south down to Portugal's Algarve coast and visit lovely Lagos before setting sail offshore.
This passage will likely give us following breezes with good opportunity to practice downwind sailing. Air temperatures will get warmer before making landfall at the dramatic island of Lanzarote.
We will likely meet many ships on this passage leaving and entering the Mediterranean. Plenty of time to practice the Collision Regulations...
This is a nice passage to get used to ocean sailing and although we'll probably have a squall and other weather challenges, the prevailing winds will likely give us relatively comfortable sailing.
Building Skills and Additional Activities
We will help anyone wanting to build their skills sailing, cruise planning, navigation, weather forecasting and more. On this trip we will also be offering training in the use of a sextant as well as chart navigation with traditional methods.
