Join the boat in Antigua at historic Nelson's dockyard. From Antigua we have a broad reach to Nevis, seldom visited but lovely and lush with a typical rainforest cloud around her high peak.

There are nice trails up to the forest. We can sail past St Kitts, admiring sister island in the small nation "Nevis & St Kitts". See photo below Nevis & Distant Shores 4.

Then sail past the Dutch island of St Eustatius before we head across the channel to the French Saint-Barthélemy, commonly known as St Barts, well worth a visit ashore for a bit of lunch and shopping to the tiny town that caters to the rich and famous. This leg crosses 30 miles of open Caribbean and in early February will likely involve close reaching in 15 to 20 knots until be drop the hook in the large busy anchorage at St Barts.

See photo below of the inner harbour at St Barts surrounded by the cute trendy town. We will anchor outside with the rest of the cruising boats and super yachts.

As we set sail on towards St Martin we can pick up a mooring at deserted Forshue Island for a look around en route.

Caribbean Classic Sailing

Warm breezes from the east make for great sailing in the winter, often blowing at 15-20 knots this time of year. We should also be able to make a few sextant sights and practice our navigation. This is true Caribbean passaging!
